Sealant On New Water Jacket Seal? Updated 2/7/25

Post by huggy76 »

Evening all

I’ll soon be fitting my new water jacket seal and was wondering, do I put the sealant on both sides of the new seal or just on the cylinder head side?

Thanks in advance for any help given

Andy

Put a bead of sealant in the slot of the new water jacket. Push onto engine block. Add another 2-3mm to flat top surface of jacket and mount cylinder head.
You need to have everything ready and clean. Goo on head nuts. Tappets in. Pushrod and tubes to hand.

Good luck.

Water jacket is changed and engine refitted, all went well with no major problems and so far the seal is dry, and no leaks from pushrod tubes etc.
Annoyingly I have a small weep from the O ring on the metal water pipe that goes into the thermostat housing (old style cooling system). I fitted a new O ring and greased it before fitting so that will need looking at but am going to put a few miles on it first in case there are any other issues.
