Auto gearbox clank!

Big lumps of metals and spanners. Including servicing and fluids.

Auto gearbox clank!

Post by pinkT25 »

Hi,

I have 1982 2.0 Aircooled T25 with an automatic gearbox.

Whilst driving it the gearbox wouldn’t change up automatically and then CLANK. Sounds like a bag of spanner’s.

The sound is still there while it ticks over in Park.

Transmission oil level is ok.

Is the gearbox toast?

Turns out the torque converter was loose and clanking around.

Luckily no damage done and the 3 bolts holding it on tightened up.
