It was always going to be a struggle im afraid as anything modded is
1/2 is probably the minimum you want to fit, I've never done anything narrower but that's probably due to parts commonality as oil full flow on an air cooled takes the same size hose
Can you cut and weld steel, or use chemical metal to make a fitting up?
I've even cut a piece of my clothes airer in the past to sleeve 2 hoses together!
My Sunday go to is Screwfix or some such for plumbing fittings , even Machine Mart for a hose barb, stuff can be found and made to work

Or this from Screwfix, will need a barb for the hose but they will have some fittings to try out
It's mega cheap and solves one of the problems you have and you get to handle the part so you can see how it all goes together
Remember its a low pressure system so you don't need titanium, just a sealed fitting
