Petrol Starvation 1980 2 litre CU
Hello All,
I'm struggling with this - I changed the petrol filter (in-line Bosch type) last evening and now fuel doesn't appear to be entering the filter - I have checked and it is in the correct way around and have blown through it (not sure if that was a good idea?)
The van has an electric pump since I have owned it fitted to the underside and a cut off valve as I had a mis-hap with fuel leaking into the sump a couple of years ago due to it being parked on a fairly steel drive.
My thinking was to replace the filter again and also to bypass the cut off valve for now by running a fuel line from the filter to the pump (the cut off valve is situated in between the tank and pump and was fitted by a VW garage). The cut off valve is powered by the same feed as the electric pump, which I can hear running with the ignition on.
I took off the petrol cap wondering if there was some sort of vacuum - it didn't change anything.
If anybody has any other suggestions I would be grateful - thank you.

No I'm afraid it ran with what I assume it had in the carbs for around 10 seconds then died and won't start again. No petrol in the filter.

Put the old filter back on and see if it runs

I will give that a go - do you think the filter could be faulty? I have another new filter I will also try - thanks for the responses

You most likely won’t see any petrol in the filter

Re: Petrol Starvation 1980 2 litre CU
Just a thought - does anybody think it could be anything else other than dodgy filter or pump failure? Could it be stuck float or similar in the carb? I doubt it as it's twin carb but am struggling a bit - have changed filter and bypassed the cut off and still no joy - I have a spare electric pump once fitted to my Beetle so am going to give that a try next.
