Sliding door sill replacement
Hi,
im about to replace the sill under the sliding door, the one with the bottom runner on for the door
do I have to take off the floor panel above it to gain access? How is this fixed, I’m guessing it’s spot welded?
what do I have to look out for?
any tips would be greatly appreciated
thanks

Re: Sliding door sill replacement
the outer sill for the sliding door is complex panel made up of iirc 11 smaller pressings previously made into a complete assembly, the top is spot welded to the floor/filler plate, the bottom edge spot welds to the inner sill, so I believe you drill out the spot welds and then use the holes to plug weld the new panel to it - but I haven't done the job

Re: Sliding door sill replacement
Post up some pictures, it’s technically a 3 piece sill , inner outer and intermediate, the outer is easy , the inner slightly less easy the middle is the hardest

That’s just the outer sill with a channel for the door seal

Re: Sliding door sill replacement
I have the replacement part, when I find out how to post a pic I will
really just need confirmation on how to access it to cut and replace, I’m thinking from above I have to remove the floor edge above it
im going to clean the paint off it see if I can locate the spot welds.
thanks for all your reply’s

Re: Sliding door sill replacement
I'm doing this job on Vinnie at the moment. A question for the hive mind - how do you paint the inside surfaces of the channel for the sliding door seal? There's return edges so surfaces inside are hidden from an aerosol or brush. Anyone got a creative solution?
Thanks,
Rob

Re: Sliding door sill replacement
For the sill itself make a couple of holes to suit the grommets you have or will get.then when welded up waxoyl, dinitrol, whatever is you choice,..,as for the seal channel, blast some paint in with the rattle can nozzle real close and flood it,then as you doing this get a pipe cleaner and having previously bent it use it to drag along the inside of the channel groove

Re: Sliding door sill replacement
should have also said that the original inner sills have a few oval holes on the inner vertical faces..

Re: Sliding door sill replacement
Yes added holes + grommets when I did the O/S so will do that again.
