Drivers door not unlocking

Post by Che »

Just happened this morning, can't unlock the door with the key but can lock the door with the key.

Not sure what to do. Is it a replacement barrel? Or just some oil/lubricant to sort it out?

Try lubricating the lock, but do it with graphite grease from a locksmith - do not use WD40 or oil.

Silly question, why graphite?

Graphite powder is better - doesn't collect the dust like grease.

^^^ This - graphite grease is basically finely powdered graphite and it usually comes in a squeezy bottle with a nozzle which allows you to blow it into the lock innards. If you use WD40 or oil it mixes with any grime in the lock and gums it up.

My graphite grease came in a 1/2lb tin and dates back to the early 40's, still 1/2 full!

This is graphite grease - different to powder, it is more a forerunner of copper grease.

Okay, would you go for the graphite grease or powder?

Use it on any lock, car, house, padlock. Always worth having arround. when you rub it between your fingers you will feel that it's fin and very slippy ;)
