I’ve been trying to replace the slave cylinder on my ‘84 1.9 DG and have managed to get the new one in all fine, problem is with clutch/brake fluid lines.
The solid line between the slave and the flex hose was seized solid and rather than try and undo two ends for reuse I bought a new solid line from brickworks - so far so good.
After a morning trying to undo the old solid line from the flex line I resorted to a gas torch and went a bit overboard on the heat to the point where the metal fitting popped off the flex rubber hose - I presume the dot4 fluid expanded under the heat and the pressure wasn’t being released properly and/or rubber was melting from heat
I’ve had a look at the other end of the rubber hose where it meets the solid line that runs under the length of the van and it looks just as troublesome as the other line.
I’m wondering if there’s a potential for cutting the flex hose about half way down and adding a straight union to another piece of flex hose with the correct fitting on the other end - any experience of this or recommendations for fittings? Or am I just asking for trouble? Not sure how the flex hose fittings are attached so any insight would be appreciated
