T25 1.9dg misfire

Post by Garypb »

This is my first post so go easy on me! I have a T25 1.9 DG which seems to be a bit hesitant when you pull away and when it's initially under load. I've changed the whole ignition system, I've checked all the vacuum pipes and they seem fine, checked the vacuum advance and that seems to be working fine and I've double checked the timing and that seems to be spot on ( i did the timing as per the sticky thread on here) Just wondering if anybody has any other suggestions as to what to check? I'm guessing the carb is the obvious next part to rule out? I was thinking of buying a rebuild kit and rebuilding it for piece of mind. The only other things I could think of is the coil which I didn't change as it looked fairly new. Thanks in advance

Do you have the standard carb? Mine is hesitant for the first 15 mins when it is not fully warm due to the automatic choke. I need to rev it before pulling away otherwise it just cuts out. Once warm though it is fine. I live with it because it is a good starter hot or cold and I don't want to mess that up!!

Everything you have described is exactly how mine behaves. I think I might order a carb rebuild kit and see if that helps as I think I've ruled everything else out, if not a bit like you I may just live with it.

Just to wander a little off course...

I had a 2e3 carb on a 1987 Vauxhall Cavalier.
Auto choke was a complete nightmare.

Going back a good few years now, but my solution back then was to fit an Alexander manual choke conversion kit.
Never had any issues after that - until the car turned into a pile of rust. :(

I wonder if the manual choke could be replicated, using a very long gear / brake cable, attached to a T3 diesel cold-start dash lever, to keep it looking original.?
1983 Tin Top with a poorly DF and 4 speed DT box.
1987 Electrics and a DJ engine.
Maybe one day I might get it finished

When starting from cold, do you push the accelerator down slowly to the halfway point and then let it back slowly before turning the key to start? That's the way to set the choke prior to even turning the key.

Can depend on what carburettor you have, if it's the "newer" model, in the pull down there's a small brass valve, that can block and cause issues with starting.
