Refilling Syncro front diff

Post by Trundler »

Anybody got any advice on refilling the front diff after replacing the VC? Like, how do you do it?? Is there a filler hole somewhere? I've looked around but can't spot it!

Its near the nearside driveshaft at about the same level. You will need some sort of funnel and pipe. The plug is a 17mm allen key.

To be fair, if you're replacing the VC then you may as well fill the diff while it's on the floor and THEN re-fit it in the van.... that's what I've always done.

It's only about 1 1/2 litres to go in there anyway.

If I have to refill a diff whilst still fitted, I use a length of vinyl tubing big enough to fit snugly in the end of the neck on a 500ml gear oil bottle.

I think it's GL5 in the front and GL4 in the back, although I have heard EP80-90 recommended for the transaxle.

Job done. Thanks for your advice chaps.

Oils: I was told GL4 (only) in the back, GL4 or 5 in the front. I've put in 1.6 litres of Castrol GL4.

It was quite simple once I'd found the filler plug in it's hidey hole between the fins!
