Remove/replace front 2wd springs

Post by slowcoach »

Hi everyone-

Ive done this job years ago and hated it- i had some sub standard spring compressors which scared the life outta me.  They appeared necessary at the time time.

I didnt remove the radius rod that time though (at the front chassis end).  The van sits fairly high, though theyre standard length springs (lesjofors).  Can i get them out and back in again just by loosening the radius rod, removing roll bar droplink, shocker etc, without compressors?  (i know maybe the calliper might need to come off to get the extra reach).  its an early van, pressed arms.

i dont want to get into a compressors job, and i dont have any decent ones anyway. cheers all!

I did a full front suspension refresh early in the so called Summer. I think just disconnecting the upper ball joint from  the upper wishbone  and removing the shocker will be enough, but jacking both front wheels off the ground will be necessary to get enough lower arm droop. Certainly doesn't need compressors though.

I'll be very happy and surprised if that's all I'll have to do

Ive only done shocks but yeah id assume if you unbolted the shock, wishbone and perhaps rollbar it would drop enough when jacking up.. just be careful you don't upset the radius rods.
