Ditching the 16A IEC Ceeform for somehting better

Post by TwinTurbo »

Has anyone ditched the Clunky Ceeform IEC 16A Connector for somethign more modern and better.

Specificaly I am looking at Neutrik TrueOne. The only disadvantage I can see is that they are not shuttered when not in use.

My IEC needs replaced idealy as it come loose from it's internal swing mount and is just a bit of a pain.

So anyone upgraded?

Cheers

Not wanting to put you off the idea of the True 1 connectors, but we use them in work in power distribution systems and we have had 2 fail recently. One burnt out due to poor connection between plug and socket.

I've recently replaced the swing out IEC plug on my van, I replaced the whole thing, but if the swing out bit is the only bit that has broken you could just replace that bit, save having to reseal the whole box.

Not seen one fail but we don't have many, we use a lot of regular power con with no issues mind..

I would have to see if the particular style of Commando is still available to replace it unless the cutout is the same for other brands.

Bear in mind that you’ll be moving from a universally available plug to one that is much more proprietary, which could give you issues if you need to replace or substitute any cables or adaptors.

There's a stash of spare Powercons on the shelf... ( Smaller to keep as a spare in the can too ;) )

It's just a thought.

Im not sure why you would swap to something non standard , makes no sense to me at all .
Let’s be honest just how often are you planning on connecting and disconnecting it anyway ?

Possibly daily over winter, to run the pre-heater.

And somone somewhere somewhen sets a new standard, 30 years later it's normal.
