Setting Timing at 1500rpm

Post by maxstu »

1987 1.9 LPG.
At idle (900 + or - 50) it is impossible to keep warm engine running once vacuum is disconnected. Minimum is approx 1400rpm. I suspect l need to revisit fuel mixture settings first
However, l need to set timing at 10 degrees BTDC for LPG and E10 petrol.
Is it a simple linear set up? As in 1800 revs becomes 20 degrees etc?

Regards

You are clamping or blocking the vacuum hose so that the engine doesn't go lean?

Yes. But it still fails. Ive noticed there is no fuel deposited from accelerator pump when l slowly go to full throttle.

Also the plugs on high idle look too clean.
Perhaps l need to reset tappets. I only did 1.5 turns on initial set up.
It is very lean on first quarter. Then picks up. But stalling at junctions.

With something round preferably.

What's the gap on the plugs?

Took it off petrol and timed it up on LPG with fairly good running now.
The carb probably needs overhauling. Thats for another time.
Will submit for MOT on LPG.

Thanks

Lpg and e5 ( super unleaded) at 10º , e10 is normal unleaded , so 5º
If you insist on using the low octane petrol and LPG set the timing to 7º

Yes , absolutely, infact i did nt even have a petrol pump on one off my campers ( daily driver) for three years after i lent it to someone who was camping with us when theirs failed on site ….. if the system is set up correctly starting on LPG is often smoother than on petrol .
