Possible fuel pump connection issue

Hi all bit of a novice. Had my 1986 T25 1.9DG Petrol. Drove 10 miles and suddenly lost power. RAC came and found the fuel pump wasn't working.. Then bypassed the number 1 relay in the engine bay and pump kicked in which go me home. Had the relay tested and seems to be working. Engine turns over but doesn't seem to be working fuel pump when relay is in. Any help welcome
