High Lift suspension / tyres

Post by dcworm57 »

Any advice or anyone done this please . So I have bought the high lift suspension kit from Brickwerks to fit to T25 westfalia 1.6 Jx engine . I have a good set of carat alloys on it at the moment , I want to keep, the Carat alloys and fit some all terrain tyres or  similar to them . I’m conscious of weight and don’t want to slow the van down anymore  if I can help it . The Carat wheels are 6j x 14 . Any recommendations and advice would be appreciated.

Thanks

14" AT tyres in a suitable size are not easily found.

The Carat alloys would have run a 205 width tyre originally but I haven't found a 205 14" AT tyres.

Have a look at Maxxis tyres. They have 14" AT in different widths and profiles.

Good luck

So if I find some 6” x 14” AT tyres do they have to be 205 width ?  ( is that 205mm )  .

No. Standard on a type 25 was 185mm, the 14" Syncro with 6" wide rims used 205mm width in the uk. Carat alloys were specified with a 205mm. The 16" Syncro ran on 195mm width. Plenty of people go upto a 215mm width.

I run a 195mm width on 15" x 6" rims on my 14" Syncro as it preserves the circumference as original.

It's your choice in the end. Do you have power steering? Post up your proposal and people will be able to advise.

So I’ve been looking at Maxxis 27x8.50x14 . Would they be any good for the carat alloys , any drawbacks ?

I had that size on my Westy with stock suspension, had to remove the mudflaps but cleared all the arches
