Engine oil capacity

Post by dcworm57 »

T25 1.6 TD jx engine , so just changed engine oil and filter on this. Wanted to know how much oil it takes to get to max level on dipstick .Checked Bentley manual which says 4ltr including filter capacity. I put 4 ltr in and it’s not showing on dipstick, so I kept putting a little more in until I got to max level on dipstick . So I have put 5.5 ltrs in .
Anyone else exeperienced this ?

Should be 4.5 ltr with oil filter for JX  Drain it out and measure again. Bentley manual is for diesel engine without turbo.

is it actually a JX and does it have the correct dipstick ?

Plenty vans are running around with 1.9s of various descriptions and odd lash ups of components

Could well be the wrong dipstick.
Just had a look on common 1.9td oil capacities
AAZ 4.3  - litres
ABL 5.0  - litres
AGR 4.5  - litres
AHF 4.5   -litres
AJM 4.5  -litres

Irrelevant as they don't have the same sump set up or sat at 50°.

The JX is of the EA827 engine family, doesn't matter which EA827 you have in there the oil capacity with a new filter is always 4.5l.
The AAZ, 1Y, AEF, the TDI's, the GTI that is also quite popular take 4.5l, basically all the "Lego" engine conversions using Diesel parts take 4.5l, that's it.

Is your dipstick tube pushed all the way into the block or is it wobbling about like a dick in a welly top?

Irrelevant! Charming. Even though engine is at an angle sump capacities are the same.
Only posted list as a guide . To try and help. 🙄

I think its a case of normally the 1.9's have a different sump so the capacitys are different when you fit the 1.6 stuff to it and chuck it in a brick its gonna be the same capacity of oil as the 1.6
