T25 Fuel Tank edge protection

Hello

My 1985 DG 1.9 WBX petrol fuel tank is out and rust treated with phosphoric acid after cleaning back to shinny metal
painted with Teamac Zinc Phosphate Primer and top coats of stone chip by brush

Question is : the seam welded exterior edges where tank top and bottom join is vunerable to rust and grit sprayed from wheels

I used epoxy to seal the 1-2mm gaps between the 1mm steel panels
and considered rubber edge seal strip like you see on interior or vehicle doors etc
or gorilla tape covered with sealer/stone chip?
Any suggestions?
