Drop arm Bush replacement

Post by THE KESZTHELY KID »

How do,
Having got Bezza, my 1980 Westy up on ramps to cure the noisy/sloppy gear change with new bushings a thought crossed my mind while I was on a Bush changing fetish :P
Can I change the drop arm bushes while my T25 is up on ramps at the front? Can it be done without removing the wheels?

Drop arm? T3 suspension has upper wishbone, upright, lower arm and radius rod. The arb has drop links.

Assuming it's the drop links, the bottom pair can be done, but the top is a challenge even without wheels on!

Oh b*gger!

I mean't to say the drop arm for the anti-roll bar that bolts to the strut bar that bolts to the lower control arm. Early arms are slightly curved whereas later arms are straight.
I read somewhere on the Vanagon forum @ samba.com that is possible but not without a struggle.

Yes the drop links can be changed. Even easier if you take the arb off and do them on the bench as you need a bit of force to get them on.

If I had to do another pair I'd drop the bar as mentioned. The D shaped rubber at the chassis mounting will probably need replacing anyway.
