T3 / T4 seats?

Post by cjaysx »

Hi all,

I imported a t25 syncro from South Africa a while ago and looking to get some new seat covers. I'm trying to figure out what seats I've got though.. I thought t4 as they have the t4 headrests, but looking at the arm rests they look to be the wider T3 arm rests.. (I did buy some more t4 arm rests to replace the two missing ones). Is there a definitive way to tell T3 and T4 seats apart?

Could be that it's a mishmash of them both being south African?

Cheers, Colin

Not T3 seat, ive got one apart at the moment and the back isnt the same as yours. Have a look at that label behind the backrest springs, does it have a part number starting with 703, thats a T4 number.

Looks like an early T4 seat , the armrest does look T25 but the striped material is definitely early t4

Thanks all, makes sense to me. The arm rests which came with the seats have an identical silhouette to the t4 arm rests I've bought, just 2cm wider.

No part identification numbers apparent. Only thing I could find on the tag was V11/HR2. DGK881375

Thanks, Colin

SA seats were locally made, not German parts at all. Thats why they have a Feltex Limited label. The cab seat backs have a recliner mechanism which uses Mk2 Golf knobs, the headrests are similar to Audi 80 etc
The seat base cushion is also the flatter commercial spec shape, not contoured like the Caravelle ones.
Basically, they are unique so either retrim or swap out, I kept my SA seats and fitted them to my syncro (no armrests though as they were Microbus not Caravelle) but I swapped the backrests over to put the adjusters outboard.

PS in your last pic, the spring wire cushion support is typical later VWSA construction, it also looks like one side of the seat base frame is bent.
