Slow stater

Post by southernscouse »

Van been going great just got back from holiday
When I stopped at a garage for fuel van turned over slowly then started did the same on return journey only happens when hot when van is cold it spins starter great
Checked output from alternator 14v
And at battery 13.5 these figures did not increase with engine speed
Have a Vdo voltmeter fitted this always shows 12v never going up but down if I put lights on
Both battery and starter have not done a lot of miles what’s your thoughts thanks

If it only does it when hot , check the ignition timing , it maybe too advanced.

Today new bush arrived took out the starter measured the end shaft dia 11mm bush in housing looks okay and 11mm pin fits nicely
The starter is a repro from gif is only a year old and I must have put a new bush in then it’s a camper don’t do many miles
Ignition timing is between 8 10 degrees van runs on petrol and lpg

I was thinking the same way so I replaced the brush pack in the alternator
The output is still low and now the red light stays on
The output is 12v at tickover and does not rise with revs unless I put the lights on red light stays on
