Another 3-way fridge problem

Post by silverbullet »

Confession time: I bought a shed on wheels.

Circa 2000, its got a larger Electrolux fridge/freezer in fake wood/hearing aid beige but I don't think its ever been used on gas. The control knob (far right hand side) won't push in to allow it to turn, so I presume that its seized.

Where to start? The ignitor appears to work (tic tic tic) when I flick the illuminated switch so its got promise and I really don't want to shell out for a compressor fridge.

Sounds like it’s corroded up , but not all of them push to turn , the push is normally after zero and hold to override the thermo couple . Brass spindle , so good old plus gas squirted round it may do the trick . Depending on the model , most parts are available anyway , either new or second user ……

You’ve bought a shed on wheels? Slipped in as a minor confession?

I think you should post a photo and fully abase yourself…

Well since you insist...stitch the second two together for the full effect.

Its a lot of tin foil and wet rot for under £3k

In my defence, the lady wants her own bathroom and it means we can safely house all the dogs when we go to agility competition weekends.

Thanks for the advice, I'll get some release agent sprayed on the spindle before getting brutal with it.

PS I won't be towing it with the syncro, for full pikey effect the Sprinter does what it does best.

14+ metres and 4 tonnes at the kerb!

Oh no Rob, just the syncro remains and I won't be gettng another! That's quite enough for me.

Back to the fridge, which also needs a new door catch (the price of them!)

Thanks Steve, if it won't give in easily I'll take the low road and replace it.

That’s a lot for under 3k.

I remember collecting a twin axle number from York to tow it to aviemore. Gave me kittens until I worked out the previous owner had inflated the tyres as if it was a single axle. Dropping from 60psi to 30 made for a much more well mannered drive…

It does tow nicely, very stable with the Al-Ko damped hitch. I have only just discovered that the water tank is full...which could explain the mpg when we collected it the other week, although 23-24 isnt bad for that combination as the Sprinter won't break 30mpg empty anyway.
I have no idea what the correct tyre pressures should be, but its a 1400kg whale when dry on 195/65R14 so low-mid 30's psi would be about right.

Tyre pressure on our Rapido poptop (800kgs) is 3 bars or approx 45psi.

I reckon mid 30's (approx 2 bars) is too low for a twin axle. More like 50-55psi for stability.

I need to locate a manual for it, but I am not getting mixed up with the Swift Owners Club (shudder) or pay money just to download one.

Thats useful, thanks. I also need a manual for the caravan itself, it seems that Swift (the company) run the owners club (paid) and jealously guard the archive for manuals :(
