Carburettor flooding
Hi, first posting on the site. Jumped into my 1984 T25 last weekend and it was a no starter.
The carburettor was flooding- so start- then loads of petrol flowing from the top, smoke and then prompt cut out.
I’ve restored the carburettor, following a superb yt video, with a good kit and checked the float and fuel lines. But still the petrol seeps out over the top of the carb causing cut out and obviously a dangerous situation ( had fire extinguisher to hand!).
Any suggestions or new carb?

Do you have a mechanical or electric fuel pump?

Float pin sounds like its stuck so its not stopping fuel getting in.

Thanks- that’s what I thought- checked the float in the carb and it’s not stuck- also checked that there is no holes in the float ( it floats in water).

its not the float itself sticking im talking about, but the pin above it. Rebuild kit ones are tight and that can stick

Ok thanks- so the float could still move up, and I tested it by sucking and no air coming through, but might there still be a fault?
Failing that, could the mechanical fuel pump be at fault?
Mines a Brosol Piersberg E2. It’s a weird thing- the pin doesn’t sit snugly, but goes through a bolt- so I could change this with the kit I purchased, which just had a regular pin.

Brosol carbs aren't all that great compared to a genuine pierburg. People have reports of them overfueling and generally badly built.
The pin needs to move freely, if there is any resistance to it it won't be pushed by the float so the bowl will overfill,it might make sense to put the old pin back in as a reference so you know how it should go in, if the new one doesnt fit right refit the old one and leave it at that. I highly doubt your mechanical fuel pump is the issue.
E D I T, ah sorry just seen your other post.
Maybe post some pictures of it so we can see what you're looking at.
I suppose you could make sure the return line to the tank isn't blocked.

Back in my workshop days I fitted several Brosals when they first became available, but had a high failure rate for various reasons. I soon stopped fitting them, and sent a couple back under warranty. One of the failure modes was massive over-fuelling and subsequent flooding. I'm afraid this has left me with the opinion that the best place for the Brosal is in the bin.
You'd be far better with a refurbished original Pierburg. I'd normally recommend Bromyard VW, but sadly, due to ill health, I'm afraid they're not currently able to offer their excellent refurb service.

So…I’m learning…Brosol no good at all. And it might just be a poor carb.
I’ve seen that Bromyard is the place on this thread, sorry to read that there is poor health being experienced.
Is there anywhere else I can purchase a good reliable refurbed Pierberg? There isn’t any on eBay except cheap new knock offs, which I’m imagining are to be avoided.
