I’m sure you’ll see 70mph indicated on the speedo, but what that is in reality may not be quite that!! And as for 28mpg!!! Surely a slip of the typing finger (more like 18!)
Mine will do 70, but that's about 3.8k on the rev counter, so must be heavy on fuel - it will do it though, even for a long run.
If there is any side wind however, it starts to wiggle around like a beetle on it's back. Lord knows what a hightop is like
Comfortable and relaxed at 60mph with ~3k revs, and I will regularly see i've crept up to 65 and ease off.
One caveat - no inclines. That long one between Weston Super Mare and Clevedon on the M5 going north sees me drop to 55mph.

1.9DG here too. Will easily do 65-70mph on a motorway for hours. ( Until I reach an incline )
I daren't work out the milage per gallon/litre. I'd rather not know.
Had my DG as a daily driver since 2008, no major issues. Will happily roll along motorway all day at 60mph, As for mpg, I just put fuel in when I need it.
Fuel is around £6.30 a gallon.
Guinness is around £ 39 a gallon.

My caravelle came with a Vege recon and paperwork showing it'd done 92k, same with the autobox as done at the same time
I grew tired of its low power to gas guzzling and have since done an engine conversion, it was a great drive but even rebuilt it wasn't a road burner
Never liked the Golf 4 cyl petrol in them, always felt underpowered to me. TDI was better but I always thought adequate or what the factory should have fitted. These vans need torque not revs

I think theyll all do 70, but wouldn't describe it as cruising..
I can do 70 all day at about 3.5k with my 2.1 and it's not screaming its bad off. sure fuel economy or lack of on carb but hey ho. AAP box helps tons as well.
It seems just fine unless the wind hits you side on and you get the wobble. I find if the more i think about it the more iffy it gets... but at those speeds you have to drive the van not like modern cars that you can switch off with. I'm always wiggling the wheel a bit to keep it on course... maybe I need an alignment check.

Bigger tyres / wheels matey, or have you got a nicely geared transmission in yours?
My box is either ABM or ABN. ( can’t remember which, and it’s under a thick coat of protection now )
Second, third and fourth are perfect. I’d prefer a top end like yours ( 3.5k at 70 ) if I could click my fingers and conjure up a box!
First gear is completely useless

I've got standard wheels at the moment. The AAP box is meant to be "the" petrol box as I understand it. Wethers it's been fettled in the past I've no clue I just bought it and stuck it in! It needs the seals dealing with though.. grrr
Yeah 1st is pretty much a pull away gear or if you need to slow crawl. But I still use it at lights or when pulling away... unless im downhill
