Hi All,
First time posting. My alternator isn't charging my van starting battery. On testing returning 1 or 2 volts back to it when (I think) I'm expecting 14 volts! Wiring looks a bit dodgy too (seen in Alternator Back).
Current alternator is - Prestolite 66021492 (will attach photos) 55AMP
I require it for split charging (Leisure Battery, no fridge). Any suggestons on a replacement alternator. Checking JK/VW Heritage website (£££'s) is helpful but wanted to check best brand, price, capacity, and where to buy suggestions. e.g. Would 65AMP be sufficient for my needs?
Alternator Top
Alternator Front
Alternator Back
On a side note, I also have a knocking noise when i press the accelerator travelling anything over 20 mph (ish) - is it possible this could be the alternator brush(es) not working correctly?
Many thanks
Andrew

Take the voltage regulator off the alternator ( 2 screws) and inspect the brushes, they are probably worn.
Cheap and easy to replace.

^wot jrt said, replacing the voltage regulator/brushes unit works wonders - did mine a few months ago and those missing volts suddenly returned.
