Rear drive shaft length - 14” Syncro
I bought a pair of used drive shafts, a long time ago, to build up as a spare set with new CV joints. I’ve just stripped off the old knackered CVs, in order to get them cleaned up, and discovered that the two drive shafts are different lengths. I’ve got one drive shaft that’s 542mm, and one that’s 548mm. I was always under the impression that the rear shafts were interchangeable, and hence they should be the same length, so I’m assuming this is a "cock"-up at some point before they got to me. Does anyone know what length they’re supposed to be for a 14” Syncro?

Autos have one shaft longer than the other. Not sure if that info helps or not.

I think the auto box shafts were 531mm and 579mm (?), so I think these are probably from a manual van and that maybe there was a difference between 2WD and Syncro shafts at some point? I'm assuming here that the 16" shafts have a different spline setup to 14" shafts???

One is the early shaft fitted to air cooled models thats the 548 mm and the shorter one is most likely the original later shaft. Auto 522 left and 570 right.

correct length is 541mm
548mm off a 2wd Aircooled/v early diesel with shorter 091 gearbox

Dammit - 2 x 541mm it is. Why is nothing straightforward?
Right does anyone have a spare 541mm rear drive shaft that they’re willing to part with, or swap for a 548mm shaft?
