Braided pipe from top of thermostat to bleed rail?

Post by bigyellowkiki »

Hey new to VW ownership, the community and mechanics in general! (so go easy :D )

I'm currently replacing the thermostat and housing after a blowout in the housing.

When removing the upper thermostat housing the braided pipe going from the top of the thermostat housing (next to the bleed screw) to the bleed rail was on its last legs and broke when removing it.

Where can I find a replacement? Does this need to be a braided pipe or will any do?

Not 100% for this particular pipe but when I needed to replace some leak off pipes from the injectors I was told just measure the inside diameter and any fuel safe pipe would do. I now have snazzy clear green ones instead of braided.

Assume it would be the same for this. What engine is it? Could possibly look it up the part number if you wanted to try and find the actual replacement.

No need to be braided , but must be the correct length so it wont kink .

I think this is it:

https://brickwerks.co.uk/product/coolan ... -5-8-epdm/

Bookmark that site for parts in the future. Highly recommended.
Also, if the diameter in the description doesn't match what you are looking for, just email them and ask.

Top team in there.

Thank you everyone for the responses & advice, I ended up measuring the inner diameter (7mm) and getting a fuel line safe pipe on Amazon. Fitting and installing new thermostat housing today so wish me luck!

Fuel hose is for fuel. You need coolant hose.

Unfortunately a lot of vendors on ebay quote the same type of hose (epdm) for both fuel and coolant hoses.

So it is easy to be mis-guided.

Maybe one day I might get it finished
