I did also look at the Marco Mansi kit as an option, the ECU looks like an off the shelf microsquirt (MS) unit so I don't see a problem with future proofing. As long as map/tune saved somewhere just in case. There's a few really good MS folk around to support, rolling road map if needed (eg
http://baileyperformance.co.uk/), repair etc. It's a 'tinkery' community that lines up well with us T3 folk, lol.
The key issue will be making it possible to identify the part numbers (and ideally doner car source) of all the off the shelf bits in the kit that could be a problem in the future (ie sensors, COPs etc) then you are in no worse situation than owning any other T3. From the website it looks like it uses Bosch parts where possible. I've not come across the Spartan Wideband controller but i'd assume it could be swapped out for an innovate, AEM etc if it crapped out, and just tweak the selection in tunerstudio.
My previous 'fun car' was an NA MX5, I turboed it about 8-9 years ago, ran it on on an older Microsquirt based MS in kit form from Diyautotune in the US, never had any issues at all with the ECU or tune and would happily use again. Daily driver, passed MOT, drove 'OEM-like' and that's with double the standard power (Garett T28, 650cc injectors, Toyota COPS etc).
Honestly the the EJ25 is just an itch I want to scratch, also I have 3 kids under 6 so i'm getting a lot of pressure to get the van back and usable...If a suitably priced doner hadn't come up I would be sticking with the DJ - it had more than enough grunt for trips last year.
