Passenger Compartment Heating Control ('82 CU)

Post by Andyroo »

I'm looking for information on the heating control cable etc. for the vent mounted in the floor of the passenger compartment on an Aircooled CU 1982 van. I stripped it down in 2018, now I'm putting it back together again and looking for control cables.
7zap etc. just show 'No Longer Available' for the vent itself and the diagrams don't show any cables. The Haynes manual is no help, but I also have the Autodata Transporter manual which writes... Pull the inner cable of the passenger compartment warm air distributor against its spring pressure and connect the control cable to the flap lever.
It wasn't working/connected when I stripped the van down so I have no photos of what it needs to make it work.
A piece of rod was hanging in the guide bush similar to a length of coat hanger wire.

The heater vent part number is 253 255 508 A

Does anyone have any pictures of a working setup or part numbers for control cables etc?

My heating controls have three levers.
The top one is for distribution.
Fully left adds heat to the passenger compartment.
Moved to centre or right and there should be no heat there.
