In need of distributor knowledge…

Post by mattfromsouthwick »

Hi everyone. Question for the hardcore nerds. I am trying to figure out if the distributor I have fitted is the correct one for my engine (1.9 DG, carb) and so far I don't think it is. 2 questions - 1) how much difference does the last letter of the VW part number make? i.e the rest of the part number is identical but the letter at the end is different on different dizzy's and 2) does anyone know what engine VW 025 905 205 C (Bosch 0 237 024 005), the one I currently have, came off of? I have hunted high and low but cannot find this distributor on any of the online lists of those fitted to VWs. the engine runs ok but loosing loads of power going up hills and I’m wondering if the dizzy/vac unit being wrong would contribute to this. I just really want to find out if changing for a part with the correct final letter will make a noticeable difference? And also figure out the mystery part number. thanks

I just googled the vw number and it comes up as the correct one for the 1.9 dg engine.

Cheers for having a look. The number part is easy enough to find, I was just unsure as to what the last letter means and if it makes any difference. The list I found says that DG should either be AE or Q at the end
