Heat Exchanger Control Pods in Aircooled

Post by Basilakios »

ImageWhen I bought my van the original heat exchangers had been removed and, while the sale included the parts, these were unfixed.  Finally decided to get on and install these but I can't find any blog, post or video where someone has shown how to refit these.  It does however look reasonably straightforward for the most part...
The below photo is the left-hand control pod and associated riser elbow.  The elbow pipe fits onto the outlet on the left heat exchanger.  For some reason it doesn't come with a fixing bolt for the clamps on the elbow and pod but long-ish M6 bolts would seem to work (right?).
The plate then seems to fix to the vehicle chassis (I can see at least one hole for this under the van).
The control pod outlet then fixes onto the flexible pipe that runs up to the front of the van.

Assuming the above is correct, my main query is I don't understand how the control pod lever arm connects onto the control wire mechanism.  The control pod included the following items which I presume do this job:

I don't, though, understand how they fit together.  Anyone able to describe it or have a photo of one?

Second query is, I can't see where the right-hand control pod fits to.  I haven't done a proper look under that part of the van (it's a little awkward to get to that side without turning the van round).  There doesn't appear a flexible pipe to connect to.  Should there be one?

The pods float , the silver part bolts to the tinware not the chassis

The heater cable connector shown attaches with the open end with the pin and clip onto the pod lever , the heater control cable attaches to the barrel (with the bolt into it ) and the cable goes through the gap in the closed end

Thanks davidoft1.  Much appreciated.

I think I follow what you describe.  Trying it will test it out though.
