Engine hatch cutting
Hello all,
Stupid questions follow...
I hear that if you install an AAZ into t25 the you have to cut the engine hatch.
Can the engine mounts not have spacers fitted to prevent having to do this ?
Also if I can find an AAZ I want to bolt it an auto box does anyone have any tips or info on this.
Cheers.

Re: Engine hatch cutting
simple answer, no..
Just modify the hatch, BW sell (or used to sell) a lovely kit that creates the small "hump" you need.
Good luck in finding an AAZ though!
And if you do please fit a front mounted oil cooler

Cheers MRhutch,
So AAZ`s are as rare as hens teeth, what is a more available engine popular engine ?
I was thinking AAZ because of no ECU.

Pretty much the same mpg too if its geared right
Re: Engine hatch cutting
On an auto transmission? Can the gearing be changed?
Annoyingly, l sold my stepson's Golf Gti 1600 a few years' ago for 200 quid. The engine was in excellent running order. I which l had kept it.

Re: Engine hatch cutting
Inline to auto using AGG/JX parts is not straightforward, you'll need the conversion parts from the USA as they had far more autos.
Re-gearing a T3 auto is not possible afaik.
Why are people so scared of ecu controlled engines? They have been around for 40+ years and are incredibly reliable. Tdi/CDI engines are amazingly efficient thanks to their ecu/ems but need very tall gearing to get the best from them (70mph at 2500rpm in top for a sub 2 litre in a smaller manual van is usual)
IDI's are slow, noisy, smelly. Why bother unless you have a thing for driving a van that smells like a mobile chippy?

This is interesting...
Same MPG ? I thought TDI`s were the way to go for economy on heavy-ish vehicles ?
What kind of gearing ?
