Anyone know what the thermosat in a westy burner is?

One of my gas rings wont stay lit, I've taken it apart and the little device that makes sure the gas goes out that if the flame is extinguished is a self contained little 'thing'...

I have no comprehension at all how it works, does anyone have a clue where I'd get a new one from?

I agree make sure it's in the flame......they do die though as T3 sez
