Pop top frame paint color

I have an 89 California with the grey pop top. The metal struts have rust, causing the paint to flake off.

After a couple of years standing due to the lockdown and fault, I am ready to get the van up and running again ... well, it is running now, but needs a clean and tidy up.

The metal frame of the pop top is showing signs of rust, with the cream paint flaking off in several places. I'll rub this down, apply some form of rust killer (Surface rust only) then touch up with paint .. trouble is i don't know the colour. 

I don't think leaks were the problem .. maybe condensation dampness.

Does anybody know the colour .. was it a 'standard colour' for all 1989 vans.

There were a few options for the colours of the westfalia hardware.
Nature zinc, brown, cream/beige/off-white and grey. And some shades of them.
US rustoleum paints have some matching colours (have to check Samba) bit not sure if they have european/UK alternatives.
The most sure thing to do is to borrow a RAL chart for a locally available paint and try to match your hardware.

That creamy beige colour looks wrong with the grey canvas, it should be light grey as well. I would be looking at sourcing another lock catch plate, that one looks very rusty.

Cream tends to be a generic colour for a lot of roof components and head-linings regardless of interior trim / fabric colour.

Grey can sometimes give a "cold" look to the interior.
Cream a more natural and neutral warmth.

A personal choice or preference I suppose.
