Yes, did that when I rebuilt the carb, it was clean....

you say when choke goes in it dies,

Have you tried opening the throttle with a brick on the pedal while on choke to see if it dies when choke comes off?

Can also try taking the trunking off the carb and see what's happening with the choke flap and fast idle cam, as choke is coming off try blocking as the choke flap would do with your hand or something to see f it keeps running.

Hi,

Went back to Sqaure one, started again with the whole thing (minus replacing all the new hoses / lines etc)

Retested again, and tried the old spraying for leaks, and this time did get a change in engine tone around the side of the carb base right near the accelerator cable :D

So, have tightened up the nuts holding the carb onto the manifold and am about to see if thats enough now that Ive finished work...

Otherwise will need to remove and replace gaskets...although they are new already...

Will let you know :ok

When you're having to rev it (on the road that is), will it accelarerate normally or does it bog down?

Hi, Its seems ok, bit sluggish but then its been SORN for almost 3 years...I took the carb off and replaced the two gaskets, one either side ofthe hard plastic gasket thingy ( dunno its technical name )

Sprayed Quick Start fluid around the same sort of area and theres still a note change, so now wondering if I need to split carb and replace those gaskets as well...

I have managed to get it to tick over finally, but its running at quite high revs as adjusted the tickover screw.....so close but aint quite right.

Cheers, Richard

Hmm, my hunch is you should replace all gaskets (tightening is unlikely to fix the leak) and check that throttle cable is actually allowing throttle to return. I say all this because for last week mine wouldn't tick over - no way. I was having to rev the bolts off it in traffic to stop it dying. Very hard work.

Yesterday I stripped carb down, replaced all gaskets and diaphrams and it will idle once more. However, the idle is too high once choke comes off and it has become clear that somewhere underneath the outer sheath of cable isn't sitting where it should be as idle adjustment makes no odds. Just a case of following it underneath to find the cause.

You can use gasket paper if you like. Much cheaper.
