Rattly over bumps

Post by T25Convert »

My '89 tin top is very rattly over bumps, and you really do feel every bump up front. Standard height caravelle springs on it.

I'm aware that this means the front suspension needs an overhaul, but I only have so much time and budget each month, so what is the best order to approach this in?

Ball joint play seems minimal (the MOT man had a good on ramp with a big bar). Radius arm bushing was done as they were collapsing.

So I think the list of items possibly up for replacement are:

1) Control arm (upper) bushes
2) Control arm (lower) bushes
3) ARB and drop link bushes
4) Shock absorbers

From a brief bit of internet searching, the ARB and drop links seem to come up as a good starting point, and look the most crusty! As I understand it the shock absorbers relate to rebound rather than initial damping, is this correct? It doesn't behave link a nodding dog, so I think they are working okay.

Any thoughts or advice from anyone?
