Help getting started.

Hi, I’ve recently acquired a 1989 Autosleeper which is in a bit of a sorry state. She has been stood for over 5 years. I’m going to start a recommission/ restoration and have her in a dry barn on stands. Does anyone out there know anyone in the Leicestershire/Coventry area who knows the way round the engine and could give me some pointers and advice. Im around 7 days a week, morning,afternoon or evenings and of course I’m more than happy to pay. I have restored a few vehicles over the years and I know the difference having a bit of expert advice can make. I’m looking forward to getting this cracking little bus back on the road.

I'm in the Cov area, what engine is it, waterboxer or diesel?

Hey Stesaw, thanks for the reply, it’s a 1.9 petrol. Do you reckon you could help me? She’s laid up near Wolvey.

Take the spark plugs out, give each barrel a liberal dose. Turn the engine manually using a socket on the crank. Be sure to take the air filter off, spiders!!

Hi Jamo,

I've got an 85 1.9DG autosleeper that I've had for the last three years - live near Hinckley, work in Coventry and drive through Wolvey twice a day so I'm sure it would be easy enough to offer some assistance.

I've not got as much experience as some on this forum but I'm fairly hands on and we do use our van pretty regularly so got to know it fairly well!

Hey David, it would be great to meet up as your probably driving past the bus every day. Let me know when you have a spare half hour and you can have a look over her and give me some ideas.I have been doing bits and am waiting on some parts at the minute but tell me when and I’ll be there.

Bit of an update for those who are curious, I went over to have a look, it's a solid van, bit of welding required but what t25 doesn't need some welding...
Sadly for jamo the engine is mayo'd. Left head seal is split so it probably overheated and buggered it. So will be dropping the engine this Saturday all being well and looking at options.
