Happy New Year all. Not posted for a while, which is a good sign.
Took our 1982 2.0cu out for a run today. My 4 speed gearbox has been noisy for sometime (ten years??
) but has finally failed. Third gear is toast, second gear is strangely gone quiet and sounds like a turbine). When I went into third today it very noisily banged and failed.My mechanic had said the 'lay shaft' was worn a few months ago and the box would fail at some point.
So, now looking for recommended routes forward. I live on the Isle of Wight and have a trusted mechanic who can install a new box, so just looking for recommendations on reconditioning etc.
