Failed gearbox repair

Post by LeeCarey »

Hi all, after getting the old boy back on the road the gearbox appears to have failed. Been a wee noisy recently like a bearing on its way out but now judders, slips and pretty much undriveable. Any recommendations on companies in the Hampshire or Surrey location that diagnose and repair.

Cheers

Sure your symptoms are caused by a duff gearbox?

You mention back on the road, was the box and engine out at anytime and have all the connections bolts, linkages etc been checked and are properly located.

That is a good point. Speaking to someone they said the slipping could be caused by fluid getting into the clutch so possibly the part causing the whining noise has breached allowing oil onto the clutch plate?
Apologies, this is slightly out of my realm

No problem that's what the forum is for, probably a few more tips or guidance will be forthcoming.

One of my vans developed a bit of Kangaroo behaviour on pulling away and it turned out to be a failed rubber/steel bond in an engine mount discovered by gingerly jacking up the engine/gearbox assembly.
