Hmm. If I've read that right then it should be OK... with the sensors I have then. Maybe there's something else I'm overlooking.

Right so took the connection off and bridged it, got power to the choke and hedgehog. So its the switch thats not suitable for the preheat and its my bad.

Not gotta figure out how to resolve this.

Surely not that much of problem, is it?
However, lm forgetting now. Have you put a 2.1 carb'd version engine inside a camper set up for DG engine? Or is it 2.1 engine with carb inside the engine bay for a DJ?

Hey Stu, Its the 2.1 with a carb on an early wiring DG...from what I can tell anyway.

I'm just hoping it doesn't do the opposite and turn it on when it comes up to temp rather than the opposite

It will.
It's not a switch, but a variable resistor that reduces in impedance with increased temp. If hot enough the resistance may be low enough to trigger the relay, switching on the hedgrhog.

Well that confirmed what I didn't want
I guess it also wouldn't work for the gauge either? If it did I suppose I could swap out the 10mm sender for the 10mm preheat switch..
Or maybe just get a 12mm to 10mm adapter and put the preheat switch there. Thought the swap was too easy but that's my bad with the thermostat housing.

Easiest way? Swap the thermostat housing.

Grrrrrrr

Yeah thought as much. I might get a 12mm to 10mm adapter and see how that goes. Don't have the time to fit another thermostat housing.

Two bolts, three hoses, two senders. Swap tops. Put wiring back as it was. Top up & bleed. Leak check. Done. Lemon squeezy. Image

So got that done today, clean sheet no advisories.

Gotta fiddle with the timing as it hesitates a bit but when it goes it goes :D

Well done, Steve. :ok

Missing my 2.1. The temp 1.9 is okay. Just doesnt have that torquey flow lm used to. :(

Good to hear it's OK stu, if a bit less oomph, hope you can sort the 2.1 soon.

Well some continuation to this story..
This week we were due to go to Devon in the van so last week I dialed in the timing, idled smooth and revd great when standing but when driving it would hesitate and backfire so I assumed it was lean. Wound out the mixture screw half a turn out each time after a drive til it stopped backfiring and the hesitation decreased, Its about 5 or 6 turns out now. Which is odd so as I understand it it would have been running rich?

Ran out of time so decided to continue to fiddle on the way down to Devon. It was still hesitant below 3k as I had to feather the throttle to about half for power, flooring it just made it hesitate / vibrate if that makes sense.
Checked the timing at the service station and it was just firing about 1 or 2 degrees after tdc... hmm OK thats not right so, took the vac advance off, blocked the pipe and timed it to the V mark on the pulley at 900rpm. Put the vac advance back on, buttoned the clamp up and wound the idle screw so the engine ticked over at about 900rpm. Checked timing again and with the vac on it advanced the timing to about maybe 10 or 15 degrees... wouldn't have thought it should move that much at idle??
However when pulling out of the services there was a marked difference and the van went like a stabbed rat.
Was OK for a bit then there was a hesitation again around below 3k but not as bad but still enough to be an issue. So not sure if Its still lean and should wind the mixture out more or check for vac leaks. All the vac pipes are new as well as the pull down unit, coil checks out ok as do the leads, have a new dissy cap and rotor on it.

Without a gas tester not sure so maybe should get it booked in on a rolling road.

But saying that when it goes it goes, hills that the 1.9 would dislike the 2.1 just flies up them. The engine has such a smooth power band to it and it just kept going compared to the 1.9, its a very different and better experience. Its fun overtaking T5s, on hills especially.

Perhaps I should wind the 02 screw out a bit more and see what happens...

Any thoughts?
