Wales trip in jeopardy.

Post by REG HOLDSWORTH T3 »

Well after 15 years our beloved Reg has let us down for first time.
Replaced fuel lines a few weeks ago.
Set of to wales and van running ace. Stopped for kebab but Juddery on approach to kebab shop then would not start after.
Engine turning fine and checked spark and ok.
It did start for period but when put accelerator full cut out every time so had to feather to get any revs
Then stopped again and can’t start.
Noticed one of vac pipes not fitted and rubber connector crap (what would this do).
I’m thinking fuel issue either blockage somewhere or have read can get water in system but really not sure.
Now in hotel with RAC on way in morning so fingers crossed.
Any ideas anyone ?

If you've got spark then it's probably the carb is blocked, or bad fuel pump. I'd assume carb is blocked more than anything, when you replaced the fuel lines you replaced the fuel filter?

I guess, take the pancake off the carb and spray some carb cleaner down the carb jet holes. From what I recall when mine blocked when we first got it the guy who came out sprayed some carb cleaner down it and just got me to start it, rev'd the engine and put his hand over the carb. I guess the idea was to try and get the engine to unblock it with vaccum. Put the pancake back on I guess as that would be easier to try and block the air going in.

The only vac line you'd need on a carb'd engine would be the one that goes to the Dissy vac advance, the one to the airbox doesn't matter really in the UK but if it's there you can leave it. Just make sure that if there isn't a hose that goes to the airbox, that the pipe from the carb is blocked off with some hose and a screw or something similar.

The carb should have the two vac lines on the front of the carb towards the front of the van, the left one goes to dissy the right to the airbox.

Thanks
RAC been and between believe deffo a carb problem.
Fuel going into carb and fuel going on return.

Waiting truck to take us to carriage neer and holiday and he suspects stuck float or blocked jet.

Yep bought kit with new fuel filter and return valve in.

Thanks again
Mike.

Have you checked the cone filter in the inlet spigot to the carb ?
Possible got bits of the old rubber pipe in from removing the old pipes

I must remember that one, I changed my distributor cap and rotor some time back, the other one was showing signs of wear but I kept it as a hot spare in the Van just in case.

You will not believe it but on Sunday when in the engine bay I found an old one on top of the gearbox ! Must have dropped it on change.
That’s what is now getting us home tomorrow:-0.
