Oil cooler using mk1 golf gti filter housing

Post by Rascal »

I'm looking at fitting an oil cooler to my 1.6 td jx engine. I understand that one option is using a golf mk1 gti oil filter housing as this has two unions on top to feed an oil cooler. So was wondering how you would go about this as obviously the current jx one has only one for the turbo oil feed.. Is it simply a case of having a T piece installed to feed turbo or is a sandwich plate just a better option?
Here is mk1 golf filter mount

Connect the cooler hoses to those tappings. The turbo is fed filtered oil from the engine case main oil gallery.
I hope you aren't going to use that cooler, it looks like it has been attacked with a hammer...

This way works but at the last look the thermostat element is not longer available so you need to make sure it's operational before you go to the effort of fitting it.
We have the correct unions for those fittings if required.

The turbo oil feed is from the top of the filter housing on the Jx Hence my question about T piece as one is needed for the turbo so its not as straight forward. As using one as feed and one as return to the cooler.
Brickwerks confirm this is where the oil feed for turbo is.
Its a generic pic of the filter housing as I intend to figure out the best solution before any purchases.

Remove that blanking plug, drill and tap to M12x1.5 then fit this.
