New van , new electrical problems

Post by Professor plumb »

Afternoon all, owned an air cooled for years and always found great advice on here. Recently bought another t25 an lle 1.6 td needs a bit of love but structurally sound , mechanics also ok as had a new engine 50,000 miles ago. Electrics not so good , been usable up to now but this weekend started ok , then rev counter stopped battery light on drove ok , then flat battery. I’m not so good on electrics so any advice is gratefully received, many thanks in advance

Alternator or its wiring maybe if your battery light came on then you got a flat battery. Not so hot on diesel wiring sadly.

Yes that’s where I was going to look , it had a new alternator just before I got it, I’ll check all the connections tomorrow when I can see.
Totally daft question is the rev counter wired from the alternator

The alternator supplies the signal to the rev counter from the “W” connection
The blue wire from the alternator triggers the charge

I would suggest first inspecting the wiring loom to the alternator , checking for bad , broken or damaged connections and loom
And then checking the alternator hasn’t failed . Could just be the brush pack , which is a easy , cheap and quick fix for about £13 and ten mins with a Philips screwdriver
