Beginners guide to lda repair

Thought I would try and rebuild my lda after nearly pooping myself seeing the price of a new one.

Since I've asked so many questions I thought I would try and give back by documenting my attempt. I couldn't find any similar posts but if my terrible Google skills have let me down again let me know and will stop wasting everyone's time.

Got my replacement parts from ebay for around £35.

First remove the lda by undoing the three Allen bolts and a 10mm nut, bit tight but doable without removing anything else.



Remove the ball joint, nut, rubber boot and two other bolts hiding underneath

Next remove the three star nuts(I'm sure they have a technical term) which will leave you with the above picture.

Now the fun bit... Mark 6 points equally distanced around the lip and Use a 3.2mm drill to make the holes. Make sure you leave enough room for a nut.



Grind off the lip to sperate the two parts of the can. Try and leave a small ridge to make it easier to line up when put back together



Find the tiny hole that has been stopping your lda from working


That's as far as I've got so far, will update when I get back to it

Grind off the pice of metal keeping the large washer on and keep it for later. You should now have all this

Put the new diaphragm inside the top pot and mark the holes (also mark where it sits) punch 2mm holes where marked, try to move them a mm towards middle to keep tension. Put a 5mm hole through middle

Assemble new pieces making sure the rod is flush with the nut on the top of the big washer. Use screw lock.

Bolt it all back together and you are up to where I am

Re assemble making sure not to twist the threaded rod as this will rip the diaphragm.

All done, fit to van making sure to pull out the rod about 1mm before fitting the ball joint then pray to the old gods it actually works.

Will find out myself when temp rises out the negatives

Thanks for the guide . Did you use and eBay kit and did it come with the threaded bar to replace the one that was riveted on?

Yeh I used the ebay one from Germany I think, It came with every thing you needed minus the hole punch!

I know Ralph (covkid) has editing rights but he's hardly around nowadays. I should imagine finding someone else who would be willing to do it would be very difficult.
