So today I got round to rebuilding my spare carb.
When refitting the body heater I noticed the wire casing has split leaving a bare wire in view as seen below.
Should I replace the heater assuming I can find another or just tape it. I dont want to plug it in right now for obvious reasons... can they be taken apart to trim the wire down?
Not sure about leccy tape as I find that comes undone to easily, self amalgamating tape will grip on itself and make a tighter fit. I think heat shrink comes as a tube so would have to be slotted over an open end.

I might see if I can squeeze a bit of heat shrink over it, I'll just take the connector off and redo it.
That might be worth a look, but not sure how well it would fare being in the engine bay. I think I'll give the heatshrink a go, as I have some lying around.
Self amalgamating tape will dissolve into a black mess like Flubber ( a blast from the past ) with oil on it.
Personally I would cut the wire further up and use several layers of heat shrink having cleared some of the loose insulation that is in the body - the idea being to provide more support for the wires which will be close to fatigue by now.
Not knowing what temps you are dealing with just there I can't recommend adhesive lined - maybe someone else knows.
Yep heat shrink would be my choice , although Sugaru would do a good job, I’m not convinced it can handle the heat . I have used it for several things , but neve tested its heat resistance…..

All done, just trimmed off the old wire casing a bit to get a better fit for the heat shrink around the body of the heater. Will refit the plastic cover for the connector as well. I like a simple job.
Well the carb is back on the van with the cable secured so I doubt there will be much movement if any. I did think about adding more but I didn't want to make a mess of it. I need to do some adjustments on the carb anyway so I will check it to make sure it's OK.
