Have you checked the driveshafts are secure?
I lost all drive on my camper many years ago. RAC man said gearbox was kaput. Relayed home in a dejected sulk. Next day had a look underneath and saw one driveshaft adrift. Bolted it up and all good again.
Have a look.

what he said /\/\/\/\/\/\

Diff replacement isn't too bad a job but likely to be other wear issues too

Yes. Incorrectly tightened about 100 miles ago! :rofl
Well l reckon your gearbox is fine.
Same happened to me. Lost all drive and RAC or AA man said gearbox blown. Rubbish. If one side gets detached then no drive because of differential. Dont ask me how. Or maybe id shaft gets detached from gearbox end. Not sure.
New allen key bolts. New serrated washers and reused the banana shaped spacers. Use some kind of thread lock and torque to spec.
Up and running in no time.

washers didn't come with new cv kits, mechanic who fitted said not needed. Perhaps therein lies the answer. I kept old bolts and washers, gave them a good clean up, just in case !

Thanks folks for all  your help. Mechanic turning up soon, lets see what he finds. May need that driveshaft Maxstu !1

I'd have thought it'd be an easy spot for the mechanic- drive shaft disconnected!

Everywhere's near on the Island, I'm in Ryde. Mechanic normally very good, knows T3's inside out.

Make sure the old serrated washers still have bite or better still new serrated washers, Brickwerks sell them and torque to the correct spec, dont need tread lock, then get your "pooh" mechanic to pay for your costs !

looking at cv joint, wheel end, I can see the cv bolts still in position even though drive shaft is floating free. Is there a likelihood that the cv bolts have sheared off from the rear wheel shaft ?
