Re: Vanagon cruise control stalk
That was one option. Just don't know how to pull apart as looks like a rivet that holds it together

Re: Vanagon cruise control stalk
If there is room could you drill it out and replace with a bolt and nyloc nut?
Re: Vanagon cruise control stalk
From a quick test fit everything seems to function correctly the only bit that does not is the main beam does not latch.. It now just functions as. Flash only.. So I'm pretty sure I know how to separate the unit.. But will need the extra pins. So I plan to get a good used one as a spare and take it apart for the pins.. So I still have original one to revert to
Re: Cruise control instalation and alternative parts.
So got hold of this cheap from the US. Doesn't have as many pins as standard indicator but everthink works????
Mocked up my bellows (as don't think was ever fitted to a diesel) the cable will be protected with a outer..
Went through the benntly trouble shooting. Everything as it should be.. But unable to get a resistance reading from the speed sensor... Will retest directly.. Have a vacuum leak to chase up.. But almost there...
So does anyone have a 2 pin speed sensor the know works (may have to order from go Westy)
And an ecu that definitely works...

Re: Cruise control instalation and alternative parts.
So removed the vss to test directly and got a resistance reading. Not what the Bentley manual says (but on research apparently its wrong). I also waved a screwdriver through the two prongs and the resistance changed.. So refitted it all. Replugged the connector to ecu.. And all works... So I don't think the plug was seated properly... So now I have a fully working Cruise control. So well chuffed.
Re: Cruise control instalation and alternative parts.
Well done Rascal. And thanks for writing up your install. Have you road tested yet? From my readings dont expect the bellows to produce enough vacuum to accelerate speed. More to just hold constant speed on a fairly level road. What were your findings if already road tested?
My CC is still boxed up somewhere in garage after recent house move.
However you have re-ignited my enthusiasm to put down DIY tools and start fitting out the cruise control...once my camper is running again
BTW where did you mount the ECU in the end?
Regards
Stuart

Re: Cruise control instalation and alternative parts.
So yesterday I drove 430km down to Cornwall for work.. And will be then off to warrick then Scotland.. Cruise control was a god send.. Didn't miss a beat and the 515050km on van are steadily going up. I mounted the ecu in the original location which is basically on the xbar above the glove box... (lhd) but should be same for RHD.
As for its operation its a case of pressing set waiting approx 5 seconds for the pump to suck the bellows into the correct position (guess depends on the strength of pump, iv fitted the strongest of the 3 I have) it then drops below the set speed but instantly accelerates, and then sits at correct speed I assume its just hunting to get the correct speed and pulses from the Vss.. Going down hill it will ease off to maintain the same speed. I'm sure it will do the same going up hill.. But my jx just doesnt have the guts to do it, and on big hills I have to shift down..

Hi Russ,
Have you a CC ECU mount plate?

Re: Cruise control instalation and alternative parts.
Joining the conversation as I have a sneaky suspicion that I have some/most of a VW cruise control system in my wbx6 haul of parts. No stalk though
I also have a VWSA "Conlog" aftermarket cruise system somewhere, takes its speed signal from magnets and a Hall switch on one cv joint.

Started today
Feeding vacuum pipe from engine to drivers' position. Now making up a three wire cable to run again from pump to front of cab...
