Seems like a stupid question, but would a normal electrician be the best person to look at the electrics in the van? Or are there people with more specialised knowledge who could look at it.
My 240v plug is not working and I'd like to get a proper solar system installed with controllers etc.

You would be better looking at caravan workshops than domestic electricians imho.

johnwayne, of course it depends on your specific situation, but I would invite an electrician for that. In some cases, there would be absolutely acceptable option to call emergency electrician in Gloucester or in any other city, where you live or nearby. Those electricians know for sure how to fix things which are related to electricity.
