T3 2.0 air cooled Carb issues
Hi Everyone!
I'm a bit of a newb to the forum and to owning a T3, I'm keen as mustard to learn about my new van and happy to take any guidance from anyone willing to help.
I bought a van as a project to work on and I was hoping to get some guidance on some carb issues I'm having. I'll list my questions and any help would be warmly received:
1. Is this a Weber replacement for the original Solex?
2. Why would someone fit plastic guttering to it?
3. What can I do to resolve the issue?
4. If you don't think it is worth attempting then would you recommend anyone near Bristol that could help?
All resources, information or help would be amazing!

Oh my!
There's a lot of stuff disappeared off that engine, only to be replaced with all sorts of bodgery.
How does it run? What issues are you experiencing?

Re: T3 2.0 air cooled Carb issues
It runs ok, it takes a little bit to get going with some backfiring but once it's going it's reasonably smooth.
Starting it up can take a few attempts and it needs some idling time before it's ready to go.
Would you mind listing what you can see is missing?

Looks like a pair of ict Webber’s , pretty common to fit them , I think the plastic pipe is just to make the filters fit as the linkage is on the way , needs either taller filters or to extend the filters you have ( which is what the plastic is doing)

Backfiring is a timing issue, that’s an easy check once engine warmed up with a strobe. Get the fuel filter changed out too, £3 item.

Some serious bodgery there. The back firing if when cold, is because of not having any chokes working. The fuel lines need sorting and the crankcase breather will let fumes into the heating system. The original distributor has been replaced with a different type.

Re: T3 2.0 air cooled Carb issues
Wrong carbs with no chokes. Missing air box. Idle circuit now redundant. Wrong dizzy, (svda will have wrong advance curve,) so not possible to set ignition timing the book way. Silly plastic guttering. One bodgy air filter missing? Fuel filters in the engine bay. Breather hose attached to another fuel filter, then back into engine bay?! Both carbs attached to vac t-piece. No seals on spark plug leads. Air intake snorkel for heater fan sat on top of engine. Airbox mounting plate missing. And I'll bet there's much more we can't see.
I'd recommend working through it to return it all back to standard.

Nothing wrong with non stock carbs setup correctly
Going back to stock is just spending to say it’s stock
That dizzy is better with those carbs
Missing air box , mountings etc doesn’t matter as they aren’t stock carbs
There’s no idle circuit on this carb set up
It will run fine with all the current parts setup properly, popping etc could be due to no chokes / running lean on startup
Set the timing at idle to 5 degrees
Balance the carbs and set the mixture
How does it run after doing those 2 things when warm ?

Re: T3 2.0 air cooled Carb issues
I agree to a point. Nothing wrong with non-standard if it's an improvement. However, VW did a pretty good job to start with...
Then realised their mistakes and water cooled it
As for timing, the retard on the original dizzy should be 12°, so I'd suggest setting it to 7°btdc.
And then the basics - air then fuel.

Yep, without the retard you set them to 7.5 Deg BTDC
