Hi Everyone
Losing the will to live trying to solve the issue on start up with my new Brosol 2E3 carb. It's mounted on my 1.9 DG WBX refurbished engine but the choke won't engage on start up into the first position. The engine runs fine if someone's manually adjusting it in the engine bay but I've now exhausted all points of reference and forums...
I'm about to fit a new distributor in the remaining hope the old knackered distributor's vacuum is defunct but I'm grasping at straws here.
Can anyone throw some light on the issue? Is it possible that I need to fit rubber elbows on the vacuum hoses (which I haven't done to date) or is it electrical or is the Brosol just flawed?
Thanks in advance for any suggestions or silver bullet - you may just save what little remaining hair I have left on my head...

In my experience the bronsal choke is tricky , I know of two other who have had a similar issue , one of which simply fitted the one off their old peirburg and pretty much solved the issue .
I seem to think that the choke doesn’t set on a single push of the pedal like it should , and there for requires a foot on the pedal for a couple of mins until the choke gets to the stage where the revs hold .
Now my experience is limited , but I do think you need to first make sure all your vac pipes are good , and they hold vacuum
It should be easy to check the dissy vac , take the vac hose off the back of the carb , and connect to a suitable syringe and pull the plunger up ( if you don’t have a syringe , just suck on it to make vacuum then put you tongue over the end of the pipe) and the vacuum should stay .
I do think it’s more to do with the carb set but than the vac pipes , as any vac leak would show up on the running of the engine all the time , like when it is up to temp , cutting out at junctions ect

thanks for the reply.
Will take your advice onboard when I try to start her up again. Do I need the little rubber elbows and/or clamps to improve the vacuum as at present I don't have any - just the hoses pushed over the pipes...?

Just done a crude vacuum test on the old distributor as suggested by Mocki...no vacuum that I can see...could this be the culprit?

Ok, so , just to confirm the dissy test, take the cap off and as you suck you should see the vac advance move , if it doesn’t and you can’t maintain suction it is questionable . But you do need to be sure your pipework is leak free for either tests to be true
No need for clamps on the junctions, the plastic pipe should be a airtight fit into the rubber , mostly if there is an issue it’s the rubber than is perished , not it’s seal on the plastic

Just trawling through the forum threads and came across the Pierburg 2E3 superpost.
I don't have a plastic choke linkage as I bought the carb and throttle linkage separately. Is this why it's not engaging the choke at start up...?

I honestly don’t know the answer to that , but I suspect the bit you are talking about is the bit that Chris had made , and that is part of the carb not the choke unit .

thanks for all your help. Just for the record I solved the issue (finally)
The starter cover marks were not aligned together - simple as that - and now it fires up without any problem and is idling fine...
