CU engine Carburetor indentification.

Post by blakeys80 »

Hello all,

I have wanted to replace the gaskets on my carbs for a while as they are age unknown and worn, plus there is some repairs to one of the fuel chamber floats. Having looked around, but not had much luck really, as when I compare mine with the pictures I see, they are different. I know this may sound strange, but please read below.

After fitting a new exhaust this week, I was casually looking into the engine bay when it dawned on me that I think I have twin 34 Solex carbs, and not the standard 32-34 pdsit type I thought.
After a little investigation, I think this may be correct, even though the upper carb bodies have the standard stampings of what should be the factory fitted type. They also have Brosol markings too.

The van came to me with a 009 dizzy fitted (which is advised to use with the twin 34 kit) , with no vac obviously, so thinking this was incorrect I swapped it out for a powerspark svda unit which has worked fine.
The throttle linkage is the centre pull type which is exactly the same that still comes with the Solex twin 34 kit, as are the k+n style filters (of which have some superficial damage)
In the picture I've added, you can see float type and markings etc.

After adding all this up, I have been searching and found this kit:

https://www.cbperformance.com/product-p/3297.htm" onclick="window.open(this.href);return false;

This is the only kit I can find which has the same floats.

As the above company is in the states, I was going to order the required gasket kit and filters, and I was wondering if anyone has any further experience of Solex twin 34s on a CU engine regards the rest of the jets/air correction/Venturi etc whilst I'm shipping?

Also, is their a definitive way of identifying what I have? as I'm nervous my detective work so far may be more Closeau than Holmes [SMILING FACE WITH OPEN MOUTH AND SMILING EYES]

So in an update to the above, I'm not confident that the above carbs dont need a rebuild as well, which isn't something I want to do myself. Plus a rebuild of these isn't that far off buying a new pair.

I have seen, and had a little read up on the Dellorto FRDA 36's below, does anyone have these fitted, and anything I need to know please?
