Tappety Tap!!

Post by Stevie H »

Hi! After MOT'ing my van I'm settling down to using it lots. It seems to me that the engine sounds a bit 'tappety'. It's a 2.1 DJ. Is this normal or is there adjustment? What should I look for? Thanks.

There is a basic adjustment for tappets, easy to do and I think its outlined in haynes. What grade oil are you using? If its been standing for a while, take it for a run first as that will probably quieten them down.

I thought being hydraulic there was no adjustment. Cheers for that.

The oil is new I can't remember what grade but I do remember making sure it was what was recommended.

Its is only a basic adjustment, but if you haven't already, I would take it for a run first to see if that quietens it down, before touching the adjustment.
Cheers,
Sam
